SCRIPTURE COMMENTARY #135

From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say: "Do penance, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." (Matt. 4:17)

THE PREACHING OF JESUS: The gist of our Lord's preaching was: "Repent and believe the Gospel." This is still, and will be for all time, the most important obligation of Christianity and the indispensable condition of salvation. He who wishes to have a part in the kingdom of God must believe in our Lord and His teaching, and must do penance for his sins.

Forsake Me Not When My Strength Is Spent

In you, O Lord, do I take refuge;
let me never be put to shame!
In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me;
incline your ear to me, and save me!

Be to me a rock of refuge,

you have given the command to save me,
