| “Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down, that the mountains would tremble before you.” Isaiah 64:1 | November 27, 2011 1st Sunday of Advent
With the 1st Sunday of Advent, the new Church year begins. Advent means ‘coming’, and there are three aspects to this. We recall how Jesus came, and was born in Bethlehem 2000 years ago, we become aware of His desire to come today, and enter more deeply into our hearts and families, and we look forward to His final coming at the time of our passing and at the end of the world. Even if the vestment worn by the priest during Advent is purple (some would prefer blue) this is a season of joy and hope because God is truly Emmanuel – God with us. | Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness and put on the armor of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which Your Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility. On the last day, when He shall come in majesty to judge the living and the dead, may we rise to life immortal, through Him who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
