TAKE FIVE FOR FAITH: Daily renewal for busy Catholics 11/14/2011

Citing of the Week

"Where difference is unacceptable, structures and relationships become brittle, ossified, fragile. Church can lose resiliency, even shatter."

Witness for the persecution
Maccabees is of particular interest to Christians because in the early years of the church several Roman emperors conducted persecutions, forcing Christians to give up their beliefs or face death, imprisonment, seizure of their property, and exile. Some decided to pay the ultimate price: martyrdom. A martyr is a “witness”; martyrs by their very lives are evidence for the reality of God and their own fidelity to God. Your life, too, has opportunities to show your total commitment to God.

TODAY’S READINGS: 1 Maccabees 1:10-15, 41-43, 54-57, 62-63; Luke 18:35-43 (497)
“The king wrote to his whole kingdom that all should be one people, each abandoning his particular customs.”

Please no anonymous comments. I require at least some way for people to address each other personally and courteously. Having some name or handle helps.
