On Friday evening in St. Peter's Square, the Vatican's Christmas Tree - a 30 metre pine tree from southwestern Ukraine - was lit for the first time. The ceremony was attended by representatives from the Catholic and Orthodox Churches of Ukraine. "The tree is a symbol of the coming of Christ, who illuminates the history of man," said Archbishop Giuseppe Bertelli, the president of the Governorate of Vatican City. "This tree," he added, "invites us always to look up, to remember God, and to feel united and in solidarity in order to build together a world of justice and of peace." More
