December 24, 2011 Christmas Eve
Dear Family of Mary!
We have completed our journey towards Christmas. Tonight we will welcome the Newborn Jesus into the world amidst starlight and angels, shepherds and kings, donkeys and lambs and hay. We will wonder at the strangeness of God's plan, sending His Son to us, as one of us, and as one of the poorest of us. We will rejoice with the angels at His coming, and kneel with the shepherds in His presence. We will be amazed with the kings, and silent with His Mother and father. We will try to pray.
Denis always tells the story of how he went to confession on Christmas Eve, some years back, and confessed with sorrow how poorly he had prepared for Christmas. He felt ashamed at his lack of prayer and penance. The kindly priest comforted him, saying, "Oh don't worry. All it takes is a little straw, just a little straw..." Is it not true? Jesus was born in a stable, and all he had was the straw to sleep on and to keep him warm. He did not ask for much. Whatever we have tonight, we can offer him, great or small, king or shepherd, angel or human. We can offer Him our hearts. We want Him to be born in our hearts. We want Him to come and live there. He is all we could ever want.
Our Lady spoke to us: "Dear children! Today, in a special way I call you to become open to God and for each of your hearts today to become a place of Jesus' birth. Little children, through all this time that God permits me to be with you, I desire to lead you to the joy of your life. Little children, the only true joy of your life is God. Therefore, dear children, do not seek joy in things of this earth but open your hearts and accept God. Little children, everything passes, only God remains in your heart. Thank you for having responded to my call." December 25, 2007 Jakov)
This is the great mystery of God's plan. He wants us to welcome His Son into our hearts and to adore Him there. Jesus is the Father's gift to us. Jesus is everything we could desire. And He is freely given to us, freely bestowed by Love. Let us open our stable doors wide tonight, and let Him enter, the King of Glory.
Christmas Novena Prayer: Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary at midnight in Bethlehem, in piercing cold. In that hour vouchsafe, O my God, to hear my prayer and grant my desires, through the merits of my Savior, Jesus Christ and of his blessed Mother. Amen
Blessed joy this Christmas Eve! Cathy Nolan ©Mary TV 2011 |
