Dear Family of Mary!
"Dear children! Also today I rejoice with you and I call you to the good. I desire that each of you reflect and carry peace in your heart and say: I want to put God in the first place in my life. In this way, little children, each of you will become holy. Little children, tell everyone, I want the good for you and he will respond with the good and, little children, good will come to dwell in the heart of each man. Little children, tonight I bring to you the good of my Son who gave His life to save you. That is why, little children, rejoice and extend your hands to Jesus who is only good. Thank you for having responded to my call." (December 25, 1997)
In this beautiful message from Christmas 1997, Our Lady tells us about the good. She wants us to believe in the good, and live for the good. The good is something worth fighting for. I see many people today who really have to fight for the good in their lives. For instance, young couples who are open and generous to life have to fight. The general opinion of most of society would tell them that children are a problem, not a blessing, and that you can have too many. And so they fight to embrace the children God sends to them. The have to fight to keep their eyes firmly planted on the good.
What a contrast this situation in the world is to the Gospel for today (Luke 1: 5-25). Zechariah and Elizabeth were childless, for years and years. They longed for a child. No fear of children in them. They knew that a child was a blessing. And so God sent them John, miraculously, at the end of their lives, as a sign of His love for them and a sign that He was about to act in a mighty way. John prepared the way for Jesus!
 Image via Wikipedia Jesus is the ultimate good. He was born and lived among us, in order to reunite us with the Father. He was tortured and died for us, carrying our sins to the Cross, so that we could join Him in heaven. Jesus is all good.
As we approach His birth, let's extend our hands to Him, and embrace His love.
Christmas Novena Prayer: Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary at midnight in Bethlehem, in piercing cold. In that hour vouchsafe, O my God, to hear my prayer and grant my desires, through the merits of my Savior, Jesus Christ and of his blessed Mother. Amen
