O Dayspring, brightness of eternal Light and Sun of Justice: come and enlighten those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death. (Traditional "O" Antiphon)
Dear Family of Mary!
"Dear children! Also today I bring you the newborn Jesus in my arms. He who is the King of Heaven and earth, He is your peace. Little children, no one can give you peace as He who is the King of Peace. Therefore, adore Him in your hearts, choose Him and you will have joy in Him. He will bless you with His blessing of peace. Thank you for having responded to my call." (December 25, 2006)
Today at Mass we hear the Gospel account of the Visitation. Our Lady set out in haste to visit Elizabeth. She carried the tiny Baby Jesus in her womb on that visit. That little Baby brought with Him the peace of heaven, the Holy Spirit. Elizabeth was immediately filled with the Holy Spirit and she said:
"Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled." (Luke 1: 40-45)
Are we not very much like Elizabeth? Our Lady has told us almost every Christmas that she comes with the newborn Jesus in her arms! The Mother brings her Son to us in that special way when she visits us in Medjugorje, or wherever a visionary of Medjugorje is on that day. She comes with Baby Jesus! And they bring us the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of peace and hope!
Like Elizabeth we should exclaim, "And how does this happen to me, that the Mother of my Lord should come to me????" We should be filled with amazement and wonder at the coming of the Infant King with his Mother!
And in fact, at every Mass it is the same. Jesus visits us on the Altar, becoming present to us, Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity, in the Holy Eucharist. He comes as the King of Peace, to take all our sins away and to unite us to Himself. And when He comes, the Mother comes as well. We have such a miracle happening in our churches every day!
May we open our hearts to this great gift of God, wider and wider each day! May we adore Him in our hearts, and choose Him over every other thing. He is our All in All!
Christmas Novena Prayer: Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary at midnight in Bethlehem, in piercing cold. In that hour vouchsafe, O my God, to hear my prayer and grant my desires, through the merits of my Savior, Jesus Christ and of his blessed Mother. Amen
