[Video] Pope visits Rome's Rebibbia Prison

It is important that the institutions promote a careful analysis of the prison system, "characterized by overcrowding and degradation," so inmates do not discount a' double punishment', and it is important to promote a development of the prison system, in respect for justice, that is increasingly tailored to the needs of the human person, said Benedict XVI Sunday, during his pastoral visit to Rome's Rebibbia prison. The Pope said he hoped that the abyss between the true reality and the legal concept of prison life would soon be filled, which must "on the one hand protecting society from possible threats," while on the other "re-integrate those who did wrong".
