These three days...

Dear Friend of CV,

This is what it's all about.

In just a few hours, the Church will enter into the three most sacred days of the year -- the Triduum Sacrum.

These holiest of days begin tonight with Holy Thursday, Good Friday tomorrow, and the Easter vigil Saturday evening.

The late Fr. Richard John Neuhaus wrote of these days: "Everything that is and ever was and ever will be...the galaxies beyond number and the microbes beyond notice -- everything is mysteriously entangled with what happened, with what happens, in these three days."

How true! And yet how humbling.

Because that means that all that we are doing to protect religious liberty, to turn back the unprecedented HHS mandate, to defend the sanctity of life and marriage, to help elect candidates to public office, and most importantly, to evangelize the Catholic vote...is also mysteriously entangled with what happened, with what happens, in these three days.

Yes, our work is focused on issues, laws, candidates, and education. It's about all those things that make up the work of the renewing the Catholic vote.

But for what purpose and to what end?

Religious freedom for what?

For the freedom to make certain that these three days permeate our world in every possible way. That all may know the truth that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, took upon himself the sin of the world and suffered and died to make us free again.

The mystery of these three days is beyond comprehension. Words are inadequate.

But these three days are what it's all about. All that really matters. What all will see and know in the fullness of time.

We humbly join each of you in praying during these most sacred of days for our Church, for our country, and all those that seek to hide the truth of these three days.

May our recalling of the passion and death of Christ bring our world closer to Him.

Of the words spoken during these three days, we pray especially these:

"Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."

And the words of the good thief: "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom."

On behalf of all of us at CV, I wish you a blessed and holy Sacred Triduum and a happy and holy Easter.
