"There
was also a prophetess, Anna...She was advanced in years, having lived
as a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple, but
worshipped day and night with fasting and prayer...She gave thanks to
God and spoke about the Child to all who were awaiting the redemption of
Jerusalem." -Luke 2:36-38

February 2, 2014The Presentation of
the Lord
Dear Friends,
On this celebration of the Presentation of the
Child Jesus in the temple, we often turn to Simeon and recall his words,
now part of the night prayer of the Church. He proclaims that Jesus is
the “Light of revelation to the nations, and the glory of God’s people,
Israel” (Luke 2:32).
But we dare not overlook or forget the second onlooker, the
holy woman, Anna. What an example she sets for us – praying, fasting,
giving thanks God, and sharing the good news by speaking about the
child to all! I suspect Anna faithfully represents so many of our
own mothers. May God bless us in our efforts to imitate the holy ones,
and here especially the holy Prophetess Anna as we try to live and
share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Almighty
ever living God, we ask that as Your only begotten Son Jesus was
presented this day in the temple, so, by Your grace, may we come before
You with minds made pure, through Christ our Lord. Amen Rev. Peter Schineller, S.J., CMMB Board of Directors
