For
one night only, "St. Bernadette of Lourdes," returns to EWTN! Tune in
at 8 p.m. ET, Saturday, Feb. 8 to see this 90-minute movie of the
miraculous events which took places in Lourdes, France in 1858. The
film, like the events which inspired it, is something of a miracle in
itself because it features a cast of 166 Catholic children! When the
movie premiered in April 2010, "The National Catholic Register"
published a story in which one member of the audience predicted it would
become "a Catholic classic." Did they succeed? Tune in and see for yourself!
"St.
Bernadette of Lourdes" was the first film produced by Navis Pictures,
but the company's president, director, producer and screenwriter Jim
Morlino said at the time, it would not be the last -- and it wasn't.
EWTN has since aired "The War of the Vendee," a story about the little
known religious civil war in France, which featured a cast of 250
children. Morlino said at the time that his intention was to create a
new genre of film, Children's Cinema, and it appears he is doing just
that.
"The arts comprise a hugely influential component of our
culture," he says. "If we can inspire one child to take up a career in
those arts, and to create stunning beauty so as to lift men's souls
toward God, and in doing so glorify Him, we will have succeeded." "St. Bernadette of Lourdes" is a professional quality film, but what astonishes most people is the quality of acting.
"If
you can capture that innocent energy many kids have and foster its
growth and direct it gently, many times extraordinary things can
happen," Morlino told the Register.
This makes even more sense
when you consider that Morlino's daughter Genevieve, who plays the lead,
was the same age as Bernadette when she received the visions of Our
Lady in the Lourdes' grotto.
This is a movie for the whole family to enjoy - particularly on a cold winter's night!
God bless you Family! |
