Sing Mary’s Heart
St. Louis de Montfort provides a special way of preparing for Communion. At the Our Father, tell Our Lady that your own heart certainly is not worthy to receive Jesus. As you say “Lamb of God”, ask Mary to give you her heart, because Jesus chose to live there. When you receive Holy Communion, imagine that Our Lady receives Jesus for you. In this way, no blessing is lost.
Pope John Paul II writes about Mary’s first Communion. It took place after Pentecost, as Peter and the apostles regularly celebrated the Eucharist. The pope wrote, “Can you imagine her joy to receive back into her body the very Jesus whom she had held for 9 months?” That is Mary’s joy when you allow her to give you her heart in Communion.
Don’t Run Away
As long as the Communion host is not totally digested, the glorified body of Jesus remains within you. (A few saints enjoyed the privilege of Jesus’ presence remaining in them until their next Communion). Therefore, the minutes right after Communion are the most important of all. Close your eyes. Let your mind think of some story of Jesus. Let some of his words go through your mind. Set your imagination upon a gospel event. Even stay after mass for a few minutes. Great things will happen. Above all, don’t run right out the door.
From a very holy priest.
