: Speaking to the faithful before reciting the midday Angelus prayer this week, Benedict XVI said the Gospel of this Second Sunday of Advent speaks of John the Baptist and calls on all Christians to choose, like him, a lifestyle characterized by sobriety, especially in preparation for Christmas. The Pope noted that the mission of John the Baptist was marked by the call to conversion in the certainty of the imminent coming of the Messiah. John invites us to inner change by recognizing our sins. The Pope said as we prepare for Christmas it is important that we find time for self contemplation and carry out an honest assessment of our lives enlightened by the light coming from Bethlehem.
