OUR LADY OF QUITO - OUR LADY OF GOOD SUCCESS

THE Church has approved these Apparitions of Our Lady to Venerable Mother Mariana whose body has been found incorrupt and whose cause is going forward for canonisation. In the Apparitions Our Lady often spoke about our times so these Apparitions are very important for Catholics today.
On February 2nd 1611 Our Lady appeared to Mother Mariana de Jesus, Torres in the Convent of the Immaculate Conception in Quito, Ecuador. This was the first of numerous apparitions in which Our Lady made many prophecies. Some of these prophecies, such as the Declaration of her Immaculate Conception by the same Pope who would later define Infallibility, have already been fulfilled. However, the prophecies which concern us today are those about the world-wide crisis in the Church in the late 19th Century culminating in a disaster for the Church, described by Our Lady, with great accuracy, as occurring “shortly after the middle of the 20th Century.” The precision Our Lady used when foretelling exactly when this disaster would happen, eliminates any doubts that she was referring to the Second Vatican Council.
We are now living through the consequences of that disaster when Our Lady warned us, through Mother Mariana that, “The Sacraments would be abused and profaned, the Light of Faith would be almost completely extinguished in numerous souls, and many vocations would perish.” She also said that, “Heresy, blasphemy and impurity would inundate the world” and she asked Mother Mariana to sacrifice herself and to pray for the Catholics of that time who would need her help.
Children especially at risk.
Our Lady said that the enemies of the Church would “focus particularly on the children in order to achieve this general corruption. Woe to the children of these times!” We can see only too clearly what she meant now that the inadequate, even false, religious teaching given to the children in so many Catholic schools and parishes leaves them highly vulnerable to the explicit classroom lessons on sex, not to mention the television programmes and computer games, which inevitably corrupt and deprave them.
Our Lady warned that the Sacrament of Marriage would come under special attack as would modesty in women. An example of this is the spectacle of women receiving Holy Communion and even distributing the Precious Blood wearing scanty sun-dresses.
During one apparition which took place in the Convent chapel, the sanctuary lamp went out leaving the chapel in darkness. Our Lady explained that this signified the “great spiritual catastrophe which would engulf the Church” .
Explaining the mysterious silence.
The Mother of God also told Mother Mariana that only after four centuries of mysterious silence would this message become known. This was so that the enemies of the Church would not be able to falsify it.
However the Convent of the Immaculate Conception in Quito always prayed to Our Lady under her title “Our Lady of Good Success “ for the Church in these troubled times. Our Lady promised Mother Mariana that, just when everything seems lost, her hour would come when she would rescue the Church.
We must pray to Our Lady and to Mother Mariana for guidance in these desperate times, so accurately prophesied by our heavenly Mother 400 years ago. The part we play is important because one chilling prophecy was that,
“In this supreme moment of need for the Church, those who should speak out will fall silent.”
Knowledge of these prophecies is taken from an 18th century manuscript The Admirable Life of Mother Mariana of Jesus Torres written by Prior Manuel de Souza, Franciscan Provincial in Quito, after the Apparitions were approved by the Church. Mgr Cadena Y Almeida, postulator for the cause for the beatification of Mother Mariana, has more recently written a book about these prophecies now translated into English by Mrs Marian Theresa Horvath entitled Our Lady of Good Success: Prophecies for our times .
