Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) - "Let us celebrate the occasion with great joy and gratitude, love and faithfulness to the Lord," said sr. Yvonne Reungoat, Superior General of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, who participated in Hong Kong at the celebrations of 140 years of the founding of the congregation in communion with all the Salesian Sisters in the world. According to the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), Sr. Liu Superior of the Chinese Province of the FMA and Fr. Lanfranco Fedrigotti SDB neo Superior of the Salesian Chinese Province were present at the celebration along with 34 women religious and a novice,
On August 5, 1872 in Mornese in Italy, two saints Don Bosco and Mary Domenica Mazzarello realized their dream of serving young people by founding the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians. According to the official website of the Institute, until December 2011, the FMA Sisters were 13,653 distributed in 1436 communities in 94 countries in the five continents.
The daughters of Don. Bosco arrived in mainland China in 1922. The first young Chinese Salesians took their vows in 1935. Since 1945, the sisters have also started working in Macao. In 1946, the Chinese province of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians with 26 sisters and 5 communities was officially born. Between 1952 and 1954, as a result of the political changes in mainland China, the Salesians moved from the mainland to Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao. Schools, professional formation centers, group homes, works for street girls, associations for moments of leisure, volunteering, catechesis, works of first evangelization, working with the poor, works to promote women ... where there is need, the tireless Salesian Sisters are present and carry out their mission of education and evangelization, along with many lay collaborators, volunteers and young leaders.
