Where our treasure is…there will be our heart. Money simply causes more dependence on and pride in ourselves and less reliance on God…our only purpose.
Once we realize the blindness of pursuing more money… and the things we can do and buy with our money…we must deal with spiritual blindness to be truly “poor in spirit” the way God wants.
This means that clinging to our opinions when not of moral truth, being interested in admiration and praise for our conversation or jokes, being possessive of friends or family,
Seeking pleasure and rest at most moments beyond our duties…especially through reality television shows…and spending minimal time at daily prayer,
All of these are also major stumbling blocks…in addition to money and things… to having God as our only treasure.
Sadly, even 80% of Catholics who worship every Sunday fall into this blindness of the world and make no progress toward knowing and loving God.
All of which is why there is so much restlessness, selfishness, envy and evil today… and virtually no true joy in hearts.
