Novena to Our Lady, Queen of Peace, Day 5

Dear Family of Mary!

December 25, 1998
After the apparition, which began at 11.50am, and lasted twelve minutes, Jakov wrote: Our Lady came joyful. She greeted me, as always, with "Praised be Jesus!" She spoke to me about the secrets and afterwards gave me this message:

"Dear children! Today, on the birthday of my Son, my heart is filled with immeasurable joy, love and peace. As your mother, I desire for each of you to feel that same joy, peace and love in the heart. That is why do not be afraid to open your heart and to completely surrender yourself to Jesus, because only in this way can He enter into your heart and fill it with love, peace and joy. I bless you with my motherly blessing."

Jakov prayed with his family. He prepared himself for the apparition with Confession and Holy Mass. After the apparition, he cried for a while.

Today we hear from Jakov Colo. I have transcribed from a talk given in Medjugorje earlier this year that was presented on April 7, 2014 as "Fruit of Medjugorje, Episode 109". You can view this talk in our Fruit of Medjugorje Archives.

I desire to greet you all. I will try to share with you what I think is the most important. I believe that you know that Our Lady has been appearing here in Medjugorje for more than thirty years. In all these years together with Our Lady, I call these years, years of great grace! These are years of great gifts from God that God desired to give to each one of us. And truly I desire to share with pilgrims who come to Medjugorje that the gift that we received was not meant just for us visionaries or just by our parish in Medjugorje. This is a gift and a grace given for the whole world. Therefore I always say to the pilgrims, first we should say when we come to Medjugorje, thanks. Thank God for this grace, for this amazing grace that is given to us, and thank God for allowing Our Lady to stay with us during this long period of time.

When the apparitions started in Medjugorje, I was ten years old. I am the youngest of the six of us, and my life before the apparitions was the life of a normal kid, who spent his time with his friends, who was always playing with his friends, and my faith was the simple faith of a kid. What my parents taught me and what they tried to teach me. And what they were saying to me all the time was to be good, to behave, to go to Mass, to go to the church. They always wanted to show to me that Our Lady exists. But never during the prayers that I would say with my family, did I ask for the grace from God to be able to see Our Lady, because I didn't even know that Our Lady could appear. I knew that God exists, that Our Lady exists, but that they are in heaven. But everything changed on the 25th of June, 1981. And I can say now that that day was the most beautiful day of my life.

On that day I was given the tremendous gift and grace to be able to see Our Lady for the first time. I gladly remember that first meeting with Our Lady. When we came up Apparition Hill and when we for the first time knelt before her, and I saw Our Lady for the first time with my own eyes, it is so hard to describe what I felt in that moment. Many things cannot be pronounced. Many things are just felt within our heart. It was the same at that moment. The most beautiful thing at that moment was the joy and peace. And the joy, peace and love that I could see in the eyes of Our Lady was something special, and now I can say that that moment was when I started feeling Our Lady as my mother.

When we met with Our Lady for the first time we were just praying with her, we did not speak to her. But we remained after the apparition in prayer and then we ourselves started asking ourselves different questions. And the question we asked was what to do now! We have to continue, because, as I said previously, we did not ask for this gift to come. We understood straight away that it was a gift. But it was also a great responsibility. So we asked ourselves what to do now. And I remember that in the early days Our Lady said in one of the messages, "Dear children, it is enough for you to open your hearts and I will do the rest." I got my answer in this message. From that message I understood that I couldn't do a lot, but I could do one thing, I could say my "yes" to Our Lady, my "yes" to Jesus. I could surrender my life completely into their hands. That moment my new life started.

I have to say I spent my whole childhood with Our Lady. A new great life started for me. I will never be able to give thanks to God for all I have been granted. Growing up and growing in my faith I did understand that apart from that gift to be able to see Our Lady, that I received even a greater gift, a greater grace. That grace was to get to know Jesus Christ through Our Lady. That is the reason Our Lady has been coming to Medjugorje all these years. She has been coming to bring us all to Jesus. She has been coming to show us the way that leads to Jesus. And Our Lady desires to guide us all on the way of prayer, conversion, peace, fasting and Holy Mass.

May we all say thank you to Our Lady with the same depth of feeling that Jakov expresses. Truly Our Lady's presence in our lives changes everything. It makes everything alive! She brings us to her Son and then we have everything!

Let us pray:

Prayer to the Queen of Peace

Mary, Mother of God and Our Mother, Queen of Peace!

You came to us to lead us to God.

Obtain for us the grace

not only to say:

"Be it done to me according to Your will!",

but to live it, as You did.

Into Your hands we put our hands,

so that You may lead us to Him

amidst these afflictions and woes.

Through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Veni Creator Spiritus - Come Holy Spirit

Come Holy Spirit, Creator, come

best gift of God above,

the living spring, the living fire,

sweet unction and true love.

Thou Who are called the Paraclete,

from Thy bright heavenly throne,

come, take possession of our souls,

and make them all Thine own.

 

Thou who are sevenfold in Thy grace,

finger of God's right hand,

His promise, teaching little ones

to speak and understand.

O guide our minds with Thy blest light,

with love our hearts inflame;

and with Thy strength, which never decays,

confirm our mortal frame.

Far from us drive our deadly foe,

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful, and enkindle in them the fire of Your love.

- Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created.

- And You shall renew the face of the earth.

Let us pray: God, who taught the hearts of thy faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant that by the gift of the same Spirit we may be always truly wise and ever rejoice in His consolation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Let us pray the Rosary!!
