Sister
Luigina Traverso was born on August 22, 1934, in Novi Ligure
(Piedmont), Italy, on the feast of the Queenship of Mary. She was not
yet 30 years old when she began feeling signs of paralysis in her left
leg.
After several
unsuccessful surgeries on the spine in the early 1960s, the bed-ridden
nun asked the mother superior of her community permission to take part
in a pilgrimage to Lourdes. She went towards the end of July 1965.
On July 23,
during the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, which she attended on a
stretcher, as the Monstrance passed close to her, she felt a strong
sensation of warmth and well-being and the urge to get up. The pain had
vanished and her foot regained its mobility.
On November 19,
2011, the CMIL (International Medical Committee of Lourdes) confirmed
the cure as “unexplained at the present state of the sciences.” On
October 11, 2012, Bishop Alceste Catella, Bishop of Casale Monferrato,
decided to declare on behalf of the Church that the unexplained healing
of Sister Luigina was a miracle.
