SCRIPTURE COMMENTARY #448

And Jesus being come out of the temple, went away. And his disciples came to shew him the buildings of the temple. And he answering, said to them: "Do you see all these things? Amen I say to you, there shall not be left here a stone upon a stone that shall not be destroyed."
(Matt. 24:1)

OVER A MILLION PEOPLE perished during the siege, and 97,000 were carried away into captivity and slavery. The ruins of the city and of the Temple were cleared away and the ground leveled. As our Lord foretold, there did not remain one stone upon another. And the Jews were scattered over the face of the earth.
